    • From Elizabeth Barker’s Barker Genealogy:
      Thomas was ‘as generous as a man as he was ble as a lawyer,’ about 1735 he went to Edenton, N.C. and became a prominent lawyer and wealthy. He was one of the four Commissioners appointed to revist the statues in 1746, was an early friend and legal instructor of Gov. Sam’l Johnston. He returned in 1778 from France, having been away several years, he took the Oath of Allegiance to North Carolina again. “He assures us that in France, the Americans are held in the highest estimation by all degrees of people and that they have nothing so much at heart as to support our Independence and humble the pride of the haughty British.” [3]
