    • Why is his name “Freeman?” The 1871-’91 censuses say he was born in Nova Scotia; perhaps his parents came here from England as indentured servants and were proud to name their son a “Freeman?” The 1901 Census says he was born in England and immigrated to Canada when he was one year old, in 1820. His death record lists him as being born in England.
