On the same page of the 1870 census, there is a Charles Miller, 42, living with Nancy, 37 (?), and Avatina, 2. He could be Eliza's son Charles as the age is right. He indicates he was born in NY. His real estate is valued at $500 and personal property as $400.

Notes |
- Obituary: "Died July 30th, at her home near Bath Mrs. Eliza Miller, aged nearly 84 years. Mrs. Miller was born and brought up In: Newbury, [Newburgh] Orange county, and has lived in the vicinity of Bath for more th an forty years. She, was the mother of twelve children, eight of whom survive her. Her husband died some twenty-two years, ago, and living on a farm there were things which required her personal attention, all of which she undertook and proved herself a woman of great energy and efficiency. She was one of the most quiet, even-tempered persons it has fallen to our lot to know. The strongest command she gave to any of her family was to say "I would rather you would not." Rarely is a household managed with so few words. In her Christian profession she exhibited well the meaning of that saying: "In quietness, and confidence shall be your strength ." Such a life as hers must needs be somewhat retired from ordinary observation, and furnishes but few notable events; and yet her children rise up and call her blessed. She has been cherished by sons and daughters alike, with the same gentle devotedness that speaks of the influence her meek and quiet spirit has had upon them. Her neighbors all speak kindly of her, and her memory is in itself a sermon on integrity, loving kindness and patience toward all. 'Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, yes, saith the spirit, for they rest from their labor, and their works do follow them.'"
I am pursuing a lead on her father as one Christian Rump. He is shown in the 1790 census as having 1 free white male 16 years and upwards and 2 free white males under 16 years. This census does not count females. Christian's household is also listed in the 1800 US Federal Census for Montgomery, Orange County, New York as having 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-15, 2 males 16-25 and 1 male 45 and over. Females listed are: 3 under 10, 1 10-15, 1 16-25 and 1 45 and over. I will continue to pursue this as a possible lead.
