In Miss Turner’s room, “In the arithmetic test of the third grade, Cecil Moore, Ada Stevens and Gladys Race ranked 100.”

The piano pupils of Miss Winifred Gray gave their fourth musicale on Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Pearson, to a large number of invited friends. Miss Ruth Hatch opened the program with a “Fantasie” from Wagner, which she played with a taste and brilliancy surprising in one so young. Then followed the Misses Gladys Pearson, Katie Butler, Sophia Lund, Gladys Race, Ruth Minogue, Ruth Bartron and Master Gale Dancer, who each played exceedingly well. the class was assited by Vernon G. Mays, Sup’t. of Schools, whose appearance was greeted with a tumult of apppause. He sang two little groups of songs in his usual happy manner, which added greatly to the pleasure of the occasion. Miss Katie Butler closed the recital with few words of thanks to Mr. Mays, the hostess, and the guests for their presence.

Newaygo Republican, 15 May 1902, “Local and General News”:
“Miss Winifred Gray’s piano pupils gave their fifth musicale on Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Hatch, which was very successful. In spite of the rain a large number of invited friends attended and encouraged the class by their generous applause. The class being large, was necessarily divided, and this program was given mainly by the younger portion. Miss Aimee Louise Gray, soprano, assisted. The following young girls played: Misses Winifred Dewey, Gladys Race, Gladys Pearson, Minnie Nelson, Ruth and Florence Hatch, Ruth Minogue, Svea Lund, Laura Larson and Mabel Whitman. Miss Edna Burnbam and Master Gale Dancer were prevented by the storm. Mr. L. W. Nelson being present, was prevailed upon to add to the pleasure of the occasion.”

Newaygo Republican, “School Notes,” 10 March 1904:
“Wednesday morning the sixth grade gave a Will Carleton program, supplimented by a violin duet by Harry Cole and Arthur Carpenter, vocal duet, Ada Stevens and Anna Market, solo by Frank Millard, and original composition by the sixth grade quartet, Frank Millard, Gladys Race, Laura Lawson, and Eldred McCann. We hope to publish it later.”

Michigan’s Prettiest Girls - 3 December ??? (This article most likely printed in the Newaygo Republican)
      (A Picture of Gladys)
NEWAYGO, Mich., Dec. 3. -- Of all Newaygo’s pretty girls none is more strikingly handsome than Miss Gladys Race, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Race, whose face is of Oriental type. No photograph can reproduce her wonderful coloring, which could not be surpassed by any professional beauty, while no artist has as yet done justice to the perfection of her features, lustrous eyes and curling lashes. Miss Race is clever and good and a universal favorite.

In 1910 Gladys was living with her sister Myrtle’s family in Concrete, Washington, the same town as her future husband.
