Obituary: An email from Georgina Race on Wed, 7 Feb 2001 regards George's brother Edwin L. Georgina asked, “One thing I thought was neat was the line that said he was an accomplished musician, I wonder what he played and/or did that made him considered "accomplished".
An obituary in either a Hammond, IN or Port Charlotte, FL newspaper, The Herald News, tells more about Edwin. It reads:
"The Herald News Monday, Jan. 11, 1971
Edwin L. Race
Hammond, IN.-Edwin L. Race, 75, of 161 N.E. Midway Blvd., Port Charlotte, died Saturday (Friday) in St. Margarets Hospital in Hammond, IN. He came to Port Charlotte nine years ago from Lansing, IL. He was a retired railway conductor for the NY Central Railroad; a member of the Port Charlotte Civic Association; an accomplished musician; a member of American Federation of Musicians Local 730; Retired Railroad Club Unit 13; World War I Barracks 714; Loyal Order of Moose 2121; and Illinois Club all of Port Charlotte. He attended the First Christian Church of Port Charlotte.
He is survived by his widow, Louise Race; one daughter; four step-daughters; and several grandchildren all residing in the Chicago area; and one brother, George of Port Charlotte.
Burial will be in Hammond, IN today.
The funeral services were announced through Kays Funeral Home, Port Charlotte."
