    • Research Notes: Ann MacCreery (4/17/99)
I have assumed Robert Brabon and Ann Vitler to be the parents of Samuel and other children listed on this family page. I found their names at the Kalamazoo, MI, Church of the LDS micro film as being married May 3, 1808, recorded in Etchingham, England. No birth records were shown, however there were records of the christening or baptism of children. Robert & Ann were listed as the parents for 5 children christened or baptized between the years of 1811 and 1816. I have assumed that this family is linked with Samuel due to the relationship of his birth date being April 9, 1810 and his christening record dated September 13, 1811. Most infants were baptized or christened with a year of birth.
I am still researching the connection to Reuban, even though I have included him in the family a child of Robert & Ann, I now think he may be the son of Robert and the grandson of Robert & Ann. Reuban was born in 1828 and the youngest child shown born to Robert & Ann was in 1818. Reuban may have been born later and therefore been recorded on another film or census. Reuban was the first of the Brabon's to move to Martin, MI between 1850-1855, and Samuel came with his wife and children later.
Samuel is listed on the 1860 Martin township census. Ford Brabon of Shelbyville, MI is a descendant of Reuban's and has a family album that shows pictures of family members which are also contained in Samuel's album, denoting some relationship.
I have also finally obtained a death certificate for Reuban, however it only lists parents as Robert Brabon and mothers name - unknown. So the mystery continues.

There is a family story telling of 3 Brabon boys all from England who all came to the United States. they entered through New York in the counties of Rochester, Monroe and Lima. One brother is said to have left for Michigan and was never heard from again. This story has been retold through family descendents of Oliver Brabon, whose family says that he originally had the name of Braband and lived in Canada, and changed his name to Brabon. It is believed that Oliver was born near Belgium and died in New York in 1929. (This information came to me from Pearl Ward of Malone, NY. I last spoke with her 1993. She was 80 years old at the time and said that a family bible may have more information in it.)

A second LDS research film showed the baptism of 2 boys, Francis & Robert in Ticehurst, England. The dates listed were November 5, 1809 for Francis and August 7, 1808 for Robert. I have included their names in the family since locating their christening records which listed parents as Robert and Ann Brabon.
