    Notes
    • My Gt Gt Gt Grandfather was William Farbrother born Gt Rollright 1796 he is buried in St Andrews churchyard Gt Rollright with his wife Elizabeth, I did discover a link with USA as William's son George is also buried in St Andrews with his wife Eliza, with an inscription on the gravestone to their son a George Farbrother who died in Port Huron Aged 59 years, whose aunt Julia was my Great Great Grandmother she died of fever aged 29 at Gt Rollright. there will almost certainly be some connection between your Farbrother and mine as the Farbrothers came almost exclusively from Gt Rollright unfortunately there are none left there now. The chances are that Edmund was either the older brother of Julia or her cousin. 2 years ago I didn't even know of the existance of any of these people, after discovering where they came from I visited Gt Rollright with my wife who found the gravestone of one Levi Tompkins who was Julia's husband. Along with other Farbrother graves. I found the whole experience quite mindblowing especially to think that if my Grandfather who I knew quite well had attanded Levi's funeral, then I was standing in the same spot he had stood in, in 1908 as an 11 year old boy.

There is a book called Great Rollright past and present published by The Great Rollright History Group Gardeners House Gt Rollright Oxon OX7 5RR however they did not publish many copies but you might be lucky, there are 1 or 2 references to farbrothers but its mainly useful for the pics and background to the village, Also the best point of contact for birth/deaths/marriage certificates is The Archivist Oxfordshire Record Office St Lukes Church Temple Road Cowley Oxford OX4 2EX E.mail archives-oxfordshire.gov.uk. website www.oxfordshire.gov.uk Tel:01865 398241 they are extremely helpful. I'm sure you know that you need to go to parish records prior to 1841 as that's when records were centralised in the UK. I feel if we know who Edmund's parents were we may be able to make a connection.

Try also www.ofhs.org.uk they are the Oxfordshire family history society also very helpful people they have all the census records

Good Morning, thanks for all youR information, I thought the time was about 5 hours.Came back a day early from Gt Rollright, I have taken numerous photos of Gt Rollright village church and graveyard also pics of 2 gravestones one of which is my Gt Gt GT grandparents William Farbrother (b 1797 d 1860) Elizabeth Farbrother (b1803 d 1881) the other of which is Jesse Farbrother and Elizabeth Farbrother the inscirption reads:

      In Memory Of
      Jesse Farbrother
      Died Dec 2nd 1867 aged 61
      and of Elizabeth his wife
      Buried in Alcester cemetary
      Died Jan 22nd 1870 Aged 61
      Also of their two daughters
      Sarah Died Sep 14th 1847 Aged 7
      Elizabeth Died Oct 13th 1851 Aged 18
Waiting for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ

I feel this is the above Williams brother and his wife and is probably Edmund's parents and sisters, if this is the case it must have been very difficult for him to have received such bad news from England about his 2 younger sisters, makes you wonder how they ever coped with such terrible tragedy. I popped into the local Post Office in Gt Rollright when there and picked up a copy of Gt Rollright past and present which I could send to you if you like you will find it fascinating, also not too sure how the photos will turn as I bought a disposable camera but they are normally OK . p.s. I went over to Alcester which is in Warwickshire but the older part of the cemetary has been cleared, so I was unable to discover anything. Although it would be interesting to find out what she was doing in Alcester as its quite a long way from Gt Rollright maybe there were other Farbrothers there or perhaps relatives of hers. As she died in 1881 the census record for that year should give the answers.
