Notes |
- From Walter Wiedbrauk/Ann MacCreery's Records:
After being married in 1882, son Samuel was born in 1883 in the Carson City, Mi. area. The family later moved to Minnesota, and son Lewis was born in 1885 at Ottertail City, Mn. They then moved to Curran, Michigan. William drove his team, but he put his pregnant wife and two small sons on the train. Eliza arrived in Curran just prior to Nov. 30, 1887 when son William Arthur was born. They did not make any more geographical moves during their lifetime.
W.H. Wiedbrauk maintained a daily log book from December 1, 1890 to August 1915, which was a span of 25 years. The book was a heavy duty hard bound book and is presently in the possession of Hazel Phetteplace. I have a copy of the pages and have made the following observations after reading the entire script.
The first page made mention of William's father's citizenship record and then there was written "WIETBRAUK FAMILY RECORD." On the same page was the family record of names and birth dates with the spelling of WIEDBRAUK. (It is my belief that this reinforces how WIETBRAUK may have been the spelling that was used in Germany). WIETBRAUK was a known name in Brunswick, Germany in the 1850 era according to the Mormon Church International Genealogical Index.
The handwriting was and is excellent. It was learned that William was a township supervisor, a member of the board of review, of the township board, of the school board and of the election board. He was very active in the Baptist church. He was on the road a lot going to Harrisville, to the mill, later to the mill at Lincoln, to Alpena, to McKinley, to Mud Lake, to Glennie, to Fairview, to Lewiston, to Oscoda, to Tawas, to Turner, to Hale, and to North Branch. Many of the trips were for someone else. He had a team and wagon for hire which was one source of income for him.
William made the following notations: 11-5-1893, father-in-law J.S. Fullerton expired; 8-25-1896, put a fence around J.S.'s gravesite; 9-10-1897, Robert Fullerton died; 3-10-1898, Willie got kicked in the face; 3-12-1898, Dr. Tiffney done up Willies face; 10-13-1899, shingled the play house; 10-9-1900, went to get Philo Hensey home, Philo was found dead on Ed Baldwin's place with a bullet hole through his arm; 12-30-1903, went to Will Hensey's wedding; 9-13-1911, Norman Jacques killed at Pinconning; 12-5-1912, Winnie moved to Saginaw; 10-14-1913, took Walter to Dr. Weeds; 10-21-1913, took Ben to Dr. Weeds.
Additional notations were: 6-8-18-1903 and 8-18-24, 1904, went to Carson City to see parents; 9-1-1904, Henry A. Wiedbrauk expired; 11-14-1905, baby, born Oct. 4, expired and was buried in the Fullerton Cemetery on the 16th.
Notations continued as: 10-10-1907, Eliza went to Ohio and returned on 11-14-1907; 9-3-1908, Hattie Hotaling visited us; 5-13-18-1909, visited Mother in Carson City and brought her home; 5-28-1909, took Mother to the station; 2-24-1914, got word that Mother was dead, on 27th went to her funeral; 3-10-1911, Sam's baby expired at 6PM; 6-4-1912, Sam came home to bury son Richard.
William's log did not list the births of any of the children, except on 4-30-1911, "was born at 10AM" (referring to his daughter Tresa). The log listed his personal notes with no mention of family events. In later years, William made note where he did work for the elder boys and when Sam, Lew, Willie and Joe helped him. The elder boys had purchased farms nearby. He appeared to have a special relationship with his father-in-law, John S. Fullerton and, the two did many things together. It was recorded in William's log.
While at Curran, William made Canthook's and sold them to the people who were lumbering in the area. His daughter Tresa says he made the stocks, sold them for 10 cents each and would make $1.00 a day which was more than he could earn lumbering. He used a hand powered lathe and a piece of broken glass to make the surface smooth.
Wm. H. Wiedbrauk signed his name as Justice of the Peace on May 1, 1894 on
Grace Fullerton's probate papers to appoint Samuel McCormick as Grace's
guardian during the John S. Fullerton's estate settlement in Alcona Co. Probate Court.
While at Curran he made Canthook's and sold them to the people that were doing lumbering in the area. His daughter Tresa says he made the stocks and sold them for 10 cents each and would make $1.00 a day which was more than he could make lumbering. He used a hand powered lathe and a piece of broken glass to make the surface smooth.
His daughter Tresa said that her father was a quiet person. If you asked him a question he would answer but never volunteered information. They all went to church every Sunday and she sat between her mother and father. He regularly read the bible after the noon dinner.
Their frame house was built in 1925-1926 Mr. Jaakkee started it with Silas Roth helping him. Silas was hard of hearing and would not be doing things right and Mr. Jaakkee would holler at him with directions and Silas would stay his course. Mr. Jaakkee finally got fed up and quit and Silas also quit. Frank Reeves finished up the building.
BIRTH: 1900 Census record said that he was born in Ohio.
DEATH: From Walter Wiedbrauk's Records. This doesn't match the death record I found. I sent a message to Walter asking if he had the actual record.
DEATH CERTIFICATE - The certificate states William died of Bronchial Pneumonia complicated by the flu. His place of birth is listed as VEAT PRA or PRO, but could be VEST PRO or PRA. The information was given by his wife and was likely written down by the registrar as it was given phonetically. His mother was listed as CARLINA MUNT, which reinforces the spelling of her maiden name. The only other clue of William's birthplace was Aunt Tresa's pronounciation as "VESBRO." Searches of early maps have not revealed a city or area that is a likely location.
