    Notes
    • From Hazel (Wiedbrauk) Phetteplace to me via e-mail Dec 2005:
"Elesta and Lew were married 13 November 1915, and they lived in a lumber camp the first years where Lew worked. Later, he built the stone house north of Cora's and on the opposite side of the road. They farmed and he had a welding business and shod horses way back when. They lived out their lives there, Uncle Lew passing on Feb. 9, 1952 in Zephyrhills, Fla. (Heart attack, I think). They spent just a few winters in Fla. and after his death, Aunt Elesta remained here in their home and she died in 1979."

      From Walter Wiedbrauk's Records:
Information written by Cora (Wiedbrauk) DeJarlais: Dad had the house built when he and Ma got married. Dad worked in the lumber camps for the first years, and Ma lived there with him. They had a little shack for a school.

It seemed like we always farmed. Dad had a blacksmith shop, he fixed about everything. I remember most him shoeing horses. Seems like it was called a forge where he got the horses shoes hot and fitted them on the anvil. We kids liked to play in the fire. One time Floyd had a long piece of round metal, and he branded me on my arm. The scar was there for years. We went to the one room school by the cemetery. When the snow was too deep, either Ma or Dad took us to school with the horses and sleighs.

My folks were Baptist, and we always went to church and Sunday School. It seems like Ma and I always taught a Sunday School class. We kids had very good parents. Ned was killed in World War 2. This was very hard on Ma. She had a rough time. Then a few years later Floyd died, so there is just Nellie and I left. When I told Ma I was going to get married, she replied that is all right, I will have another girl, and that is our Nellie.

On June 20th, 1935, William Henry Wiedbrauk & Eliza Jane Wiedbrauk purchased property from Agnes Tipkey. The instrument was witnessed by Rhoda Tipkey and Cora Wiedbrauk and signed by L.A. Wiedbrauk as Justice of Peace for Alcona County, MI.
