- From Walter Wiedbrauk/Ann McCreery's Records:
HENRY ANDREW WIEDBRAUK & CAROLINE MUNT
SHIP RECORDS
GERMANS TO AMERICA, Lists of passengers arriving at US Ports, 1850-1855, Volume 5, May 1853 to October 1853. Edited by Ira A. Glazier and P. William Filloy.
Ship: COREOLAN From: Bremen To: New York
Arrived: 15 September, 1853
Page 408
WIELBROCK, HENRY 36 years old, occupation shoemaker, from Prussia
CAROLINE 28 years old, occupation wife, from Prussia HENRY 2 years old, male child
NOTE: Of the 265 passengers listed for the ship many were listed with the first name of HENRY, with no HEINRICH listed. The record keeper for the ship apparently made the English conversions at the time they registered as passengers. Their destination was listed as Illinois, and their Province as PR which stands for Prussia.
The County Death Record Book from Montcalm County did not list his
parents. He was 86 years old at the time of his death and the cause given as old age. Death Certificate obtained from Montcalm County, MI
NOTE: The name HEINRICH VIETBROUK ON THE NATURALIZATION PAPERS was later changed to HENRY ANDREW WIEDBRAUK; A check of the Germany records at the Mormon Church in the International Genealogical Index (IGI) lists:
FRIEDRICH HEINRICH WIEDBRAUK Christened on April 1, 1827, Evangelist
Parish, Blomberg, Lippe County, Germany. The parents were listed as
Heinrich Wiedbrauk & Dorothee Catharine Linneweber.
Also records from the IGI file shows the name of WIETBRAUK with birth
dates from 1772 to 1843, with their birth place of Lichtenhagen,
Brunswick, Germany. The records available at this time do not correspond with HEINRICH born on 9-1-1818, however they are very likely closely related to HENRY ANDREW WIEDBRAUK.
In view of the above information that the name WIEDBRAUK and WIETBRAUK, were both in use in Brunswick and Lippe County, it is believed that the 2 families are related and either could be his ancestors.
Family information indicates Henry & Caroline were married in Vesboro, Brunswick, Germany in 1850.
DATE REFERENCES
September 15, 1853 the family arrived in New York, USA.
After September 15, 1853 daughter WILHELMENA was born. Her death
Certificate obtained from Montcalm County, Michigan states that she died of Scarlet Fever on 4-18-1871, states she was 18 years old at the time, the certificate recorded on 8-20-1872. The name spelling on the record was WILHELMENA WIELBRAUGHK. Her 11 year old sister CAROLINE ALSO DIED ON 5-1-1871. Both girls buried with their parents at Crystal, Mi.
NOTE: After locating the Ship passenger Arrival records it became known that only 1 male child was listed as a passenger on the ship, which means that Wilhelmena was born in the U.S.A. shortly after their arrival.
June 12, 1856 Heinrich Vietbrouk declared his intention to become a
Citizen by filing a Certificate of Declaration in the Common Pleas Court in the City of Cleveland, state of Ohio.
9-25-1856 a son EARNEST MORRIS WEADBROCK was born while still in the
Cleveland area. He is the only son that took and maintained the last name of WEADBROCK when the rest of the family used WIEDBRAUK.
October 7, 1858 he was granted citizenship, certificate #2345, by the
District Court of the Northern District of Ohio at the City of Cleveland, Ohio. This certificate was in the possession of family members.
Around 5-1-1860 daughter CAROLINE was born, she died on 5-1-1871 of
Scarlet Fever and was listed on her death certificate as 11 years old and born in Germany, however she had to be born near Cleveland, Ohio. The death Certificate gave the name as CAROLINE WIELBRAUGHK. The death record was recorded on 8-20-1872 the same date as her sister who died 13 days earlier.
3-27-1861 son LEWIS OLIVER WIEDBRAUK was born in Portage, Ohio
8-5-1864 daughter ALICE WIEDBRAUK was born in Cleveland, Ohio
4-8-1871 & 5-1-1871 the 2 daughters died of Scarlet Fever when they were living in Crystal Twp, Montcalm Co, MI
April 5, 1872 son JOHN WIEDBRAUK was born in Crystal Twp, Montcalm Co, MI
It was recorded that CAROLINE (MUNT) WIEDBRAUK had 7 children and 5 still living. This was in a Census report after all of the above listed children were born and the 2 daughters had died.
LAND OR PROPERTY: a check was made of deeds granted in Montcalm County for the years of 1867 through 1881. I found no listing in the books however may have passed over the record.
1897 Plat map of Montcalm County, showed 40 acres along the south right center of section 24 in Crystal Twp. was listed to F. WIEDBRAUK. it was learned that the grandson FRED EDLIN who lived with them went by both names of EDLIN & WIEDBRAUK, and he remained on the family farm, he would have been about 14 years old in 1897. FRED'S descendants tell me there are presently no buildings on the property and it is not owned by the family. The property is about 5 miles north of Carson City.
HENRY ANDREW WIEDBRAUK 9-1-1818 9-1-1904 AND CAROLINE MUNT 10-28-1825
2-24-1914
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Probate Court in Montcalm did not have a record of the Wiedbrauk name
change.
Hazel Wiedbrauk was in possession of what appeared to be a baptismal
Certificate dated 17 May, 1862 and listed HEINRICH WILDBRAUK & CAROLINA MOND as parents, the location was FREEDOM, PORTAGE COUNTY, OHIO. The form printing was in German and apparently referred to LEWIS OLIVER WIEDBRAUK.
(The important thing noted is that the family name was changed in Ohio, and the name MOND for Caroline has not been observed on previous papers.
More records may be available from the Mormon Church at their Headquarters. , however as of 8-22-1994 I have not been able to locate a map that lists Vesbro, Brunswick.
Records may also be available in Germany.
