Capt. Jonathan Ailing was a successful business man, an energetic and prominent citizen, a valuable leader in the train band, of which he was a captain of the 6th Co., 11th Regiment Militia, and was elected and represented the colony in the Assembly or Legislature twenty-three times from 1730 on.
Of his children, the first, Sarah, died young. Mary married Samuel Dickerman of Hamden. Jesse married Sarah Atwater and died without issue. His estate was distributed to his widow and his brothers and sisters. Oliver died unmarried. Susanna was the last survivor of Captain Jonathan’s children.
