He was first lord of the Manor of Sharpenhoe of his name...[called] a grocer...[granted] a messuage and tenement called Sonne situate and lying in the parish of St. Mary Wolnoth in Lombard Street...London...." He purchased the Manor of Sharpenhoe in 1578. Elizabeth Merry, dau. of Robert Merry of Northall, was his first of three wives. -"The American Genealogist," XVI:104.
