    • Worked in the logging camps around Cadillac, Mi, pairing up and driving horse teams. He could tell a horse's temperament just by studing its head.
      Worked in the auto plants of Lansing after the war before working for Ruth's step-father driving a truck. When he could finally afford his own dump truck, he worked independently hauling scrap for local Grand Rapids factories to the Butterworth land fill. He broke his ankle while working and ended his final days in the Veterans Home.

      Children from Bessie and Leo marriage put up for adoption when parents divorced.
