"His mother abandoned him at about 2 years old. He was raised by her parents (Albert MONROE and Cora A. SHEARS Monroe) and he later changed his name to Budd Monroe WOOD (after his Grandfather). He left at about age 13. He served in WWII."
"I am the wife of Budd's eldest son, Don, and I met Budd in Feb. or March of 1976.
He had spent the last 11 years grieving over the loss of his wife, Monica, and shortly after that the loss of their youngest child by adoption, though he kept in contact with her until his death.
He rarely left home except to get groceries and take a trip once a year, or so, to see one of his kids.
He became my best friend over the next couple of years as we lived only a short distance away (most of the time). We even lived with him between apartments one summer, and it was during this time that Don and I decieded to go bowling, on my birthday. As usual, I asked him if he would like to go too, and of course he said NO. Then just as we were ready to go he changed his mind.
Well, he'd no sooner bowled the first game of his life, but he immediately signed up for a bowling league, and then a second one, and before you knew it his whole life changed. He got new glasses, a new, longer hairstyle, a hearing aid, a hip replacement, and a date.
I am so glad we have that final photograph of him - he actually looks younger than in the picture he gave us in about 1997.
It got where he'd come over for lunch almost every day (boy I bet he got tired of Kraft Mac. and Cheese, not that he ever complained) and he'd be back for dinner, too. I only wish Jason and Justin had had him around longer - he sure did love the boys. He was there when we needed him and I like to think he needed us, too. "
