    • From the History of Deerfield, genealogies page 65:
      Simon Beaman removed to Deerfield in 1683, he became a garrison soldier, and Hannah the school dame; both were captured 1704, but came back from Canada; she bequeathed her lands for the benefit of the schools of Deerfield. the first instance of the kind in this part of the state; her will was made in 1723. [1]
