- Charles, of New London, came from Maryland 1665, but was born in Barlow, near Chesterfield in Derbyshire, son of George. He was a merchant of distinction, partner with the Christophers, going to and from Barbados. From that island he brought the first news of the great fire in London 1666, as set forth in his letter to Gov. Winthrop of 16 Jan following. See 3 Mass. Hist. Coll. X. 66. He was a useful man, recorder of the town, and clk. of the Co. Court, and d. 1684. [2]
