Orretta C. Schrader
CENTREVILLE - Orretta Caroline "Balckie" Schrader, 81, of Centreville, Mich., went to be with her Lord and Savior April 6, 2005, at her home.
She was born March 15, 1924, in Sturgis, Mich., a daughter to Orin (Doc) and Edith (Shears) Krontz.
Blackie had resided in the Sturgis and Centreville area all her life. On Oct. 5, 1940, she married Charles A. Schrader in Sturgis.
For more than 30 years she owned and operated Schrader’s Domestic Service. Some of her early life employment included waitressing and she had worked at Fairview Nursing Home in Centreville and she was a homemaker, loving wife and devoted mother.
She attended the Sturgis Bible Chapel and the Fish Lake Bible Chapel.
Blackie is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Charles; her children and their spouses, Mary and Ronald Davis of Iron River, Mich., Ola Player of White Pigeon; Charles Schrader and Faythe Graber of Centreville, Jimmie and Betty Schrader of Centreville, and Leslie and James Pappas of Burr Oak; 23 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Alexander of Three Rivers; special niece, Edith Moore of Sturgis; a devoted caregiver, Mary Lou Dentler of Mendon; and a dear friend, Charles Davis of Constantine; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; one daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Ray Davis; son-in-law, Charles Player; three grandsons; five sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
Friends and relatives may call at the Hackman-Foglesong Funeral Home of Sturgis after 2 p.m. Friday where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services celebrating the life of Orretta "Blackie" Schrader will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Larry Wallman will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Nottawa Cemetery in Nottawa Township.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Schrader’s memory consider the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging or Three Rivers Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. |
