  Notes	Dave's sons and wives came to visit them a lot and they were good to Mary's children. Dave had a large, German Shepard named Butch4. Butch was a very special dog to Dave and he was always with him and sat on his lap a lot. Mary and Dave Axtell died in a car accident 16 Feb 1961 on the day of Sherril Strimback's funeral. Dave was too sick to go to the funeral and went to the Dr. in Charlotte, MI. Mary went to Sherril's funeral and was picking up Dave from a niece's home (Bell Garvey) in Charlotte, MI. They had a right front tire blow out and they hit a big rock (not a tree as articles indicated) on the right side of the road. Mary broke her neck and died at the site of the accident. Dave was pinned in the car. He was taken to the hospital and after three hours of surgery, where they worked on his crushed leg, he died on the operating table. Dave's family inherited everything and Donna and Ronald received nothing because Mary died first. Donna remembers her mother (Mary) and Dave saying one time they found out that after one of her mother's (Mary's) previous marriages (to Sweezy or Hyatt) the divorce papers were not signed and they (Mary and Dave) had to get remarried, maybe at the Charlotte Court House. Donna was young and is not really sure. (Note: One of the articles said they were married in Lansing in 1945. This may have been the first time.) DEATH: Died at age 75 at Hayes-Green-Beach Hospital, Charlotte, Eaton Co., MI. DEATH: Services were held Monday, 20 Feb 1961 at 2:00 p.m. at Burkhead Cheney Chapel, Charotte, Eaton Co., MI.
