- Note from James Burren BROWN III
Claude's wife, was adopted at around 4 yrs from her natural/biological family---AMIE(or phonetically similar sounding name) by the SMITHs. Her adoptive mother (Mrs Smith) lived to be over 100yrs, and i saw her when she came to visit in Lansing when I was about 8-9yrs old. It is almost an indelible memory as our whole neighborhood was impressed that such an old human being cd be at our house, you know how those things went. Unfortunately, the only birth certificate i have is for claude flinn, i believe,...someplace.
While its not at all clear, there was a story that one of Nellie's Flinn's siblings, a sister[?], married Potter Palmer or 'married into' that family of Chicago. Years ago, while attending a conference at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island, i saw some old pictures of some of this Palmer family arriving/or departing from the Grand Hotel by carriage, back in the early 1900s. I understand this is the family that gave its name to the Palmer House, of Chicago. [Parenthetically, Claude's older sister Grace(John Flinn had only two children) married a Louis B. Anderson who came originally from a farm upbringing. but it seems he became somehwhat of a 'mover and shaker' in battle creek.]
