    • Marriage Notes for ANDREW DEFOOR and LETTIA HAYES:
    • Andrew Jackson DeFoor was born July 9, 1807 in Franklin County, Georgia, son of James and Elizabeth Sims DeFoor. He married on July 12, 1828, in Habersham County, Georgia, Elizabeth Caroline "Liddie" Hayes, the daughter of Elijah and Mary

Hayes and the granddaughter of William (who was a Revolutionary Soldier) and Polly Hayes, born January 17, 1808 in Habersham County, Georgia.
    • Andrew and two of his brothers moved their families to Brandley County, Tennessee in the early 1830's, but returned to Gilmer County, Georgia before the birth of his son, William James DeFoor, (my great grandfather) who was born April 12, 1839

      in Gilmer County.
    • The first land that Andrew purchased in Gilmer County was on August 1, 1841, for Lot 40-26-2 (north side Lot), containing 70 acres, in consideration of the sum of $150.00. This property was transferred to his son, Martin V. DeFoor and his

wife on April 16, 1856. Andrew must have acquired more land, for on March 21, 1867 he deeded Lot 69-26-2 (10 acres plus or minus) to my great grandfather, William. The Deed was not registered until June 25, 1892. Judge Thomas J. Jeffries, who

was Ordinary of Fulton County, Georgia, stated that Andrew Jackson DeFoor, his cousin, "had the reputation of having cleared and grubbed more than five hundred acres of mountain land..."
    • Sometime around 1881 Andrew and his wife "Liddie" went to live with their son, Monroe, in Alabama. Andrew died in Haleyville, Winston Co., Alabama on April 3, 1887. "Liddie" died there January 16, 1892 and they are buried at Lower Hackleburg

(formerly known as Middle Church) Cemetery near Hackleburg, Marion County, Alabama.
